MERCEDES - Alfredo Ortiz, 74, passed away on Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at his residence in Mercedes. Alfredo was born in Zacatecas, Mexico to Jesus and Juana Ortiz. He was the third born and had six other siblings. Alfredo was taught how to work at an early age. He came to Mercedes in 1980 and put that work ethic to use. He was a very hard worker and entrepreneur. He never worked for anyone but himself and he managed to raise six children working in construction. Alfredo would work Monday thru Sunday from sun up to sun down. He never lacked a job and was always able to find work. He built many homes, including the home he raised his children in and homes for all of his brothers and sisters. When he was not working, he loved to dance and listen to music and have a few beers with his friends. Alfredo was a very simple and humble soul who was always willing to help someone in need. Alfredo is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Elliel Ortiz. He is survived by his children, Griselda Ortiz of Mercedes, Mirna Ortiz (Richard Asebedo) of McAllen, Alfredo Ortiz (Bertha) of Hunstville, Maribel Cisneros (Luis) of Pasadena, and Aaron Ortiz of Mercedes, grandchildren, Yoselin Ortiz, Cynthia Estella Martinez, Iris Asebedo, Edith Asebedo, Alfredo Ortiz Jr., Guadalupe Ortiz, Luis Abram Cisneros, Andres Cisneros, and Diego Cisneros, his siblings, Felipa Cerda, Francisca Ortiz, Froylan Ortiz, Malena Ortiz, Angela Ortiz, Jesus Ortiz, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Alfredo will always be remembered as a hard working man with a kind and giving soul. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd, from 10am-3:30pm, with a graveside committal at 4pm at Sacred Park Cemetery.
