Weslaco- Alfredo Villarreal Sr., 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 at his home. He was born in Edcouch, Texas to Rafael Villarreal and Manuela "Nelly" Silguero. He grew up in Weslaco, where he met his wife, Maria E. Casares when he was in his early 20s. They were married on June 4th, 1954 and moved to Chicago, where Alfredo was employed at Volcun Mold and Iron Company for seventeen years. They had five children in Chicago but moved back to Weslaco in 1971. Alfredo had become disabled and was no longer able to work, so Maria took charge and worked for John Knox Village for many years. Alfredo and Maria loved to go dancing. They never turned down a wedding or quinceañera and Alfredo was sure to dress up for the occasion, he was always sharply dressed. Alfredo loved listening to Spanish music and enjoyed a cold Lonestar every now and then. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed a good barbeque. Alfredo is preceded in death by his parent, Rafael and Nelly Villarreal. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maria Villarreal, who faithfully cared for him in sickness and in health, his children, Fred Villarreal Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, Alma Hernandez (Hector) of Weslaco, Linda Rico (Noe) of Weslaco, Alex Villarreal (Rachel) of Weslaco, and Alice Nelson (Mark) of Weslaco, grandchildren, Alma E Hernandez of San Antonio, Tony Rico of Weslaco, Lisa Calderon (Joe) of Weslaco, Steven Hernandez of San Antonio, Monica Villarreal of Washington, DC., Alexander Villarreal of San Antonio, Veronica Wright (Nick) of Lansing, Michigan, Fred Villarreal III of Lansing, Michigan, Brianna Gutierrez of Weslaco, Alyssa Villarreal of Weslaco, Bradley Nelson of Weslaco, and Eryn Nelson of Weslaco, great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cadence, and Caleb Calderon, Derek and Emerie Rico, and Desmond Wright and his daughter-in-law, Yolanda Villarreal.
