She spent her childhood in Puerto Rico, but when she became an adult, she was determined to find a better life, so she and her brother would come to the United States and live in New York. They lived with their aunt and uncle and both worked very hard. Alida worked as a seamstress and became one of the best. Finally, after a few years of hard work and determination, she and her brother were able to save enough money to bring her mom with her to New York where they would live in an apartment and Alida would care for her mom until her death.
