Allen "Gene" Stigers

La Feria - Allen "Gene" Stigers entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 15, 2017. Gene, as most knew him, lived life to the fullest. Gene was a family man and would do whatever it took to take care of his family and friends, both near and far. Those who had the privilege to call him a friend were blessed with his unconditional love and support. Gene was born in Hatton, Kentucky to Marshall and Bessie Stigers on August 31, 1930. Throughout his childhood, Gene found his interest in music, as he played several musical instruments. Upon completion of school, he began a long career working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad which he retired and went on to work for several other companies including Union Carbide, Anglo Iron and Neuhaus & Company. Later in life, Gene found meaning in several hobbies including traveling, hunting, fishing and bowling. He enjoyed bowling the most, where he continued to bowl with his extended family and friends until his illness. Gene is preceded in death by his first wife Anita Stigers (Goins), second wife Patsy 'Nana' Stigers (Coleman), parents Marshall and Bessie Stigers, brothers Harold Stigers and James Stigers, as well as his son Gerald Stigers. He is survived by his daughter Judy Stigers, grandsons Justin (Cindy) Raleigh of San Antonio and Kevin (Becky) Raleigh of Weslaco, great grandchildren: Hannah and Noah Raleigh, Cody Raleigh, Christian, Angel and Caitlyn Brown; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and 'family by choice.' Honorary Pallbearers: Justin Raleigh, Kevin Raleigh, Adam Wade Blain, George Burns, Joe Wolfe, and Mark Stigers. Visitation will be held at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Aurora House of Weslaco or St. Judes Children's Hospital.
