Amadeo Rodriguez

Mercedes- Amadeo Rodriguez Jr., 62, passed away on Monday, September 14th, 2020, at Mercedes home. Amadeo was born on April 4th, 1958, to Amadeo Rodriguez Sr. and Margarita Silva Rodriguez in Weslaco, Texas. Amadeo was the 4th of nine children and grew up in Weslaco. He was a Weslaco Panther, and after graduating high school, Amadeo earned his associate’s degree in Mechanical engineering from TSTC.

Amadeo purchased the Dairy Queen franchise in Donna and successfully ran Donna Dairy Queen for over thirty years. Amadeo earned numerous awards during his tenure and was one of the most successful franchise owners in the valley.

Amadeo was a devout Catholic and enjoyed visiting the Basilica in San Juan, praying and lighting candles. His faith in God was at the center of his life.

Amadeo enjoyed reading, keeping up with the daily news, and working in the yard. Sundays were sacred for family barbecues, and he wanted a nice cold beer. He and Lucy enjoyed dancing and traveling together. They made lasting memories, traveling to Las Vegas, Mexico, and Florida theme parks.

Amadeo will be remembered for his patience, understanding, and generosity. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Pearl Ruby Rodriguez, and father, Amadeo Rodriguez Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucila “Lucy” Rodriguez, daughter, Monica P. Solis (Sabas), son, Rogelio Solis Jr. (Ninfa), of Weslaco, grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander, Antonio, Jacob, Rebecka, and Royce Solis, siblings, Maricela Rodriguez (Ray Shearer), Elma Clinkseale, Overlin Rodriguez (Anna Marie), Irasema Coody (Raymond), Librado Rodriguez (Diana), Raul Rodriguez (Sylvia), Macrina Ramos (Eliezar), and Sandra Rodriguez.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 16th, 10 am-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 17th, at 10 am at McCaleb Funeral Home with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
