Mercedes-Amado Martinez Jr, a resident of Mercedes, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home. He has found his way to rest with the Lord after bravely fighting Stage 4 pancreatic cancer for over a year. He was born on July 11th, 1953 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to Amado and Maria Martinez, the second oldest of six children. A hard, determined worker from his early beginnings, he began driving tractor trailers at the age of 13 to help support his family. In 1971, at the age of 18, he met the love of his life Maria Alicia Quintanilla. One year later they were married. The following year his first child with Alicia, Aracelia Martinez, entered the world, followed by another daughter, Amada Martinez and his only son, Claudio Alberto Martinez. He continued to drive trailers his entire life and built a reputation for himself as a hard-working and honorable businessman, beloved by his family, his community and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In November of 2013, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and fought it hard and valiantly until he finally fell victim to his illness on April 30th, 2015. He undoubtedly made his mark on the hearts and minds of all he knew. From the laughs and smiles, he could fill a room with, to the examples he set that demanded respect and admiration. Amado Martinez Jr. was great at everything that he did, but he will always be remembered as an excellent father, husband, grandfather, uncle, son, friend and teacher. For all that knew him always walked away with just a little more wisdom. He will be eternally missed and forever loved. He is survived by his wife, Maria Alicia Martinez, his children Maria Angelica Gonzalez, Aracelia Martinez, Amada Martinez, Claudio Alberto Martinez, and his grandchildren, Abigail Garcia, Viola Sophia Martinez, and Lilith Faith Martinez.
