WESLACO - Amanda Ramos Salinas was born on April 30, 1924, in Ciudad Mier Mexico. She passed away on April 29, 2019, in Weslaco, Texas, one day before her 95th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Mr. Cosme Salinas, who passed away in 1988. Amanda is survived by two daughters: Sulema Salinas, Nelda Salinas Cantu, a son-in-law Jose Cantu and two granddaughters Jasel Velasco Cantu and Janette Cantu plus a grandson-in-law Jonathan Velasco. Both of her daughters became educators with Master's degrees. Her granddaughter Jasel Velasco is currently working on her Master's degree. Amanda's other granddaughter Janette will be graduating this May 2019 and working on her internship in Occupational Therapy this summer. Jonathan Velasco, her grandson-in-law, is a professor with a Doctorate a degree in Chemistry in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Amanda worked at the Basie Onion & Garlic Factory in King City, Ca. She was also a self-employed sales person selling jewelry, clothes, etc. Amanda was a world traveler, traveling to Europe twice. Visiting. Hawaii and Mexico extensively: she also visited the Holy Land, Disneyland; Disneyworld and Universal Studios. She was the queen of the Adult Day Care two times in the 1990s. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, from 10 am to 9 pm with a 7 pm Rosary at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 2, 2019, 2pm, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.
