Andrea Cortez

Andrea Cortez, born on January 14, 2001, in Weslaco, Texas, passed away on November 19, 2024 at the Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was only twenty-three years old. 

Though her life was cut short, she accomplished more than most people. Andrea started playing basketball when she was only six years old. She played on traveling teams, local teams, and tournaments in between. Andrea's dedication and discipline earned her a spot on the Harlingen Lady Cardinals varsity basketball team as a freshman. She made a significant mark as an outstanding defensive basketball player, lettering all four years. Andrea had a unique talent for building team spirit when they needed it most. Andrea also excelled in academics and graduated from Harlingen High School. 

Andrea demonstrated a free-spirited nature throughout her life, tackling challenges head-on with a smile that could light up any room. Her ability to make others laugh in minutes was a testament to her warm-hearted personality and immense charm. She touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible impression on those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Andrea is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Jose Maria and Virginia Treviño and paternal grandparents Alfonso and Andrea Cortez. 

Andrea is survived by her parents, Guadalupe Treviño and Alfonso Cortez; her brothers, José Cortez, Marco Cortez, Octabio Cortez; her sisters, Pamela Cortez and Diana Cortez; her puppy Jodi, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

The community will come together to honor Andrea during her visitation, set to take place on November 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas.

Andrea Cortez’s legacy will be cherished by all, and she will be profoundly missed.
