Andrea Cavazos Valdez

August 28, 1932 — February 26, 2019

Weslaco- Andrea C Valdez, 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 26th, 2019. She was born on August 28, 1932 to Francisco Cavazos Sr. and Andrea Villapando Cavazos in Weslaco, TX. She grew up in Weslaco with seven siblings. While working downtown as a teenager, she met her future husband, Modesto Valdez. They were married on August 27, 1950, at St Joan of Arc in Weslaco. Andrea and Modesto raised five children together, and Andrea continued to work in retail for a short time until becoming a full-time homemaker. Andrea was instrumental in the families success, helping her husband manage the children while they sold crops all over West Texas. Andrea and Modesto traveled all over Texas while selling crops, and many beautiful areas in Mexico, where they were fortunate enough to have an uncle who was a tour guide. The vacations they enjoyed with their children and each other were priceless gifts. They loved to go dancing, and on weekends you could find them at "tardeadas," which were late afternoon/early evening dances so that Modesto could wake up early the next day. Andrea was a great cook. She loved plants and spending time in her yard admiring all of the beautiful birds God created. She enjoyed shopping and finding good bargains. Andrea was very caring and generous, always taking the time to help others in need. Andrea will mostly be remembered by her faith in God and her leadership and devotion to her family and desire to please others. She was a loving mom, who led with a stern hand, and a gentle, but authoritarian style. The kids learned at a young age that mom meant business. She believed in discipline, and the children would come to appreciate that later. Andrea is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Sr. and Andrea Cavazos, her loving husband of 68 years, Modesto, son Rolando Valdez and his wife Dahlia, brothers, Rogelio, Francisco, and Elijeo Cavazos, sisters, Angelita Zepeda, Mague Rosales, Ninfa Cavazos, and Maria (Eduardo) Macias. Andrea is survived by her children, Ruben Valdez of San Antonio, Yolanda V Cortez (Robert) of Houston, Robert Valdez (Terry) of Weslaco, Ruby Lopez of Weslaco, grandchildren, Crystal, Carla, Karyme, and Kate Lopez of Weslaco, Robert Jr. (Jackie) of Mercedes, Brittny Valdez of Weslaco, Robert Cortez Jr. of Houston, Cynthia Barajas (Anthony) of Houston, Michael Cortez (Desiree) of Houston, Ricardo Valdez (Rosa) of San Antonio, Raquel Hernandez (Jose) of San Antonio, Ruben Valdez Jr. of San Antonio, Sandi Diperro (Chris) of Phoenix, Raymie (Walter) Barrios of Progreso, Aileen Arriaga (Anthony) of San Antonio, and Rebecca Martinez (Rene) of San Antonio, great-grandchildren, Robbie, Shelby, Easton Valdez, and Cameron Cortez, Christian, Ryan, and Aiden Barajas, Rocky, Rambo, and CJ Valdez, Rolando and Dahlia Barrios, and Alyssa and Ashley Valdez, brother Roberto Cavazos (Belen) of Weslaco, brother in laws, Amado Valdez of Donna, Adolfo Manuel Valdez (Cecilia) of Weslaco, sisters in law, Raquenel Morales (Israel+) of Weslaco, and numerous nephews and nieces.
