Weslaco-Antonia Cerda Alvarez, 87, passed away on Friday, June 19th. Antonia was “everybody’s mom”, treating everyone as kind and gentle as her own. She raised her own children and then her grandchildren, sometimes even her great grandchildren.
Antonia was very strong in her faith and was a great example to all who knew her.
She also loved social activities and spending time in her garden. She had birds that included parrots, parakeets and pigeons, but her favorite pet of all was a frog, a bullfrog in fact. She purposely grew lilies in her pond to attract her bullfrog.
Being a lover of animals, she also had many dogs, 17 to be exact and one loving cat, Bella.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernabe Cerda and Maria Columba, he sons, Francisco Alvarez, Jr. and Ricardo Alvarez, her sisters, Joaquina Perez, Isabel Cerda, Teressa Cerda, and Maria Martinez, her brothers, Arturo Cerda, Lupito Cerda and Hilario Cerda.
Antonia is survived by her loving husband, Francisco Lopez Alvarez, Sr., her daughters, Francisca Silva (Esteban), Leticia Bailey (Randy), and Alberto Alvarez (Linda), eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, two sisters, Irene Cerda and Eusebia Limas and two brothers, Jose Cerda and Pedro Cerda.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Garza, Leon Valadez, Eloy Silva, Randy Bailey, Albert Alvarez and Esteban Silva.
Visitation will be held Sunday, from 4-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 22nd, at 10am with Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home.
