Obituary for Antonia Luna Vela
Weslaco- Trinidad Antonia Vela, born on June 12, 1927. Passed away Friday October 3, 2014; after battling with cancer for several years and overcame she won the battle, our beloved Antonia passed away due to kidney failure. Antonia was the daughter of the late Refugio Luna and Maria Auscion Mendoza. She was born in Peoria, Illinois and lived her early years in Monterrey, Mexico. Antonia was the second child of three children, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings Genoveba & Antonio Luna. She enjoyed spending her time with family and was always willing to help others. At the age of 21 Antonia married Hilario Ortiz in Brownsville, Tx. With whom she was blessed with 3 children. Graciela Irma Martinez, Maria Isabel Vasquez & Hilario Ortiz. They lived in Peoria, Illinois until they moved back to the valley. Her Family continued to grow where she was blessed with three more children Gregorio Ontiveroz, Rosa Maria Ontiveros Montano & George Ontiveros. She was dedicated to always provide for her family and worked very hard in any work that came alone. She would never turn down any work that would provide the means of raising a family. As the years went by the family continued to grow and grow and grow. It would give her such great joy to see her grandchildren. In her late years she re- married her last husband Baldemar Vela with whom she had no children. Antonia enjoyed camping, cooking & spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren. In the beginning years of the millennium she move in with her daughter Mary in Weslaco. Where she was well taken care of and never lacking anything and was very comfortable. Time to time we would take her to the beach, park, and out to eat. She enjoyed eating quite a bit. She was truly a great mother and grandma. There Antonia is survived by her 6 children, 56 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren & 14 great great grandchildren. We shall soon meet again!
