Weslaco- Weslaco- Antonio C. Cavazos., Sr., passed away on Friday, September 15th, 2017 at his home in Weslaco. He was born on February 27th, 1927 to Arnulfo and Braulia Cavazos in Alice. Antonio was the oldest of seven children and grew up in Weslaco where his parents were pioneers. Antonio's parents were entrepreneurs and farmers. Antonio's parents worked in the cotton industry for many years and historically picked first cotton bale in the US. They opened a small grocery store, which blossomed into a thriving business, AC Cavazos & Son's tortilla factory, which would be run by Antonio and his brothers for many years. Antonio helped with all aspects of the family business. In his younger years, he would take workers up north to help with farming. Along the way, he met his wife Consuelo in Bastrop, Texas. They were married in August, 1951 and they came to Weslaco where they would help run the family business, raise their family, and spend the rest of their lives. They enjoyed nearly 45 years of marriage until Consuelo's untimely death in 1995. They raised six children, Antonio Jr., Frances, Miguel, Raymond, Lydia, and Rosalinda. The children were expected to help run the family business and worked very hard to ensure that AC Cavazos Tortilla factory would thrive. The business did thrive and at one point was the largest in the valley with many vans delivering tortillas from Rio Grande City to Brownsville and servicing stores, restaurants and schools. Antonio was a very hard worker, getting up early to get the business running and working late to close. He was also very strong in his faith and ensuring that the family made it to weekly mass no matter how busy they seemed to be. The family was able to get away to visit Consuelo's family. They took many memorable road trips to Bastrop and Seminole and made lots of stops in between. They visited Carlsbad Canyons many times, as well as Six Flags in Houston. The trips were not fancy, as Antonio was a dedicated business man, but he was able to pay for all of the kids college and get them cars. Antonio was a devoted and loving husband. He and Consuelo both worked very hard to support their family. When they weren't working or taking care of kids, they did make time for each other. They loved to go dancing on the weekends. This was one of their favorite hobbies as a couple. Antonio is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Consuelo, his son, Raymond Cavazos and daughter in law Sylvia, granddaughter, Crystal Cavazos, his brothers, Miguel and Juan Cavazos, his sister, Juanita Rodriguez, and his sister in law, Eva Cavazos.
