Mercedes: Armandina T. Hernandez, 95, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, surrounded by family. Armandina was born on January 31, 1927, to Conrado and Concepción (Lozano) Tijerina. Armandina worked as a clerk at Cortez hotel where she met Erasmo Hernandez and married in 1950, they spent the rest of their lives together and they raised four children in Weslaco, Texas.
Armandina was a true matriarch and took her homemaking job seriously. She loved cooking, and her meals were always delicious, especially her homemade flour tortillas. In addition, Armandina loved shopping and traveling. She was a Dallas Cowboy fan and she loved football. She loved singing, listening to all kinds of music, and spending time with her daughter. She was always laughing and happy. One of her favorite vacation spots was Las Vegas, and she enjoyed the excitement of gambling. Armandina was always on the go. She kept active and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Armandina was a devout Catholic and led by example, attending mass regularly. She was strong-willed and stern but loving. Armandina became a widow in 1981 and spent the rest of her life devoted to her family, children, and grandchildren.
Armandina is preceded in death by her parents, Conrado and Concepción Tijerina, husband, Erasmo Hernandez, brother Orlando Tijerina, and sister, Isabel Carreon.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Y. Martinez (Benito), of Mercedes, sons Robert “Bobby” Hernandez (Belen) of Weslaco, Raul Hernandez (Gloria) of Weslaco, Richard Hernandez (Veronica) of McAllen, brother, Rogelio Tijerina (Kathy) of Weslaco, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 6th, 1 pm-9 pm, and Monday, February 7th, 1 pm-9 pm, with a rosary at 6 pm both evenings. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 8th, 2pm, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.
