Weslaco- With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Armando Treviño, a beloved husband, father, friend, and dedicated community member. Armando passed away on May 5, 2024, at McAllen Medical Center.
Armando, born on September 14, 1950, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Luis and Aurora Treviño, was a man whose journey led him to the United States in 1966. His family settled in Weslaco, where he found joy working as a seasonal migrant. During this time in California, he met the love of his life, Aurora Salas. In 1976, Armando and Aurora exchanged vows. They returned to Weslaco to build a life filled with love and happiness as they raised their children together, a testament to his deep love and unwavering commitment to his family.
Armando had many talents and passions, but his love for history and storytelling was unparalleled. Those who knew him would agree that he would have made an exceptional history teacher. His captivating narratives painted vivid pictures of the ranches in California and Mexico, bringing his stories to life with his impeccable memory for detail. His storytelling had a lasting impact on all who listened, evoking nostalgia and admiration for his ability to transport his audience through time and space with his words.
Outside of work and storytelling, Armando found solace in landscaping and yard work. A sports enthusiast, he particularly enjoyed watching "fútbol," aka American soccer. His dedication to family extended beyond borders as he kept close ties with siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins and even incorporated family visits into road trips.
Armando was also an exceptional dancer. He loved to take Aurora out dancing. They would dominate the dance floor with Armando’s lead.
Armando's commitment extended into his career, where he dedicated thirty years to WISD as a custodian at Weslaco High School. Armando was a hard worker and had an unmatched work ethic. He provided for his family and set an example for those around him, inspiring feelings of respect and admiration for his dedication and perseverance.
Described as humble, always happy, easy to get along with, and very social, Armando's presence brought warmth wherever he went. He was a proud Band Booster for the Weslaco Panthers for many years.
