Arturo Moreno

January 13, 1949 — October 18, 2017

Weslaco-Arturo Moreno Sr., 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017. He was born on January 13th, 1949 to Margarito and Eloisa Moreno in Weslaco. His parents were Weslaco natives and entrepreneurs. They ran one of the first barber shops in Weslaco. He had two brothers, Javier and Jose Angel. Arturo would spend most of his life in Weslaco. He went to Catholic school as a young boy and graduated from Weslaco High and attended college at Pan American. Arturo met his future wife and soulmate, Juanita, in junior high. Shortly after graduation, they were married, in 1969 in their aunt's backyard. They enjoyed forty-eight years of marriage and raised a beautiful family together. Arturo and Juanita spent their first summer of marriage in Michigan, where they would get married in the Catholic Church and Arturo was trying to decide how he would raise his family. They soon returned to Weslaco where Arturo would begin his career at Central Plumbing and Electric as a salesman. He was dedicated to his employer and when offered another job at the post office, he turned it down as he was very thankful to be gainfully employed. This turned out to be a good choice, Arturo thrived in sales and enjoyed 40 years of success with Central Plumbing and Electric, eventually managing the McAllen sales office. Arturo and Juanita had three children, Diana, Sandra and Arturo Jr. They raised their family in Weslaco and Arturo worked hard to allow Juanita to stay at home with the children until they were in school. They also took a lot of family trips together, traveling to Garner State Park many times, as well as Colorado, the Grand Canyon, and Michigan, to name a few. His favorite spots where he spent the most time, were South Padre and Las Vegas. Arturo was a true sportsman. He loved hunting and fishing. He spent many weekends fishing at South Padre or hunting at the ranch. He loved anything outdoors. He also loved to watch sports and had an opinion about all sports. He never missed his grandchildren's sporting events and even his great-grandchildren could expect to see grandpa in the stands. Arturo, a true Weslaco native himself, would not miss out on Friday night lights and his dear Weslaco Panthers, he was a loyal fan. Arturo is preceded in death by his father, Margarito Moreno. He is survived by his mom, Eloisa Moreno, his loving wife f 48 years, Juanita, his daughters, Diana Medina (Juan) of Weslaco, Sandra Amador (Renaul) of Weslaco, his son, Arturo Moreno Jr. of Weslaco, grandchildren, Darrell Amador (Marcelina Almaguer), Kassandra Amador, Ariel Amador, Johnny Medina, and Justin Medina (Carla Gonzalez, great-grandchildren, Darrell Jr. Gavin, and Ariana. Arturo will always be remembered as a man of strength, dedication, and character. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who had faith in God and set an example for all who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses at McAllen Heart Hospital for the compassionate care they provided, central Plumbing and Electric for the experience and genuine concern they have shown throughout their lifetime, and their mom, who spent countless sleepless nights in the hospital with Arturo, showing true dedication and companionship for the love of her life.
