On April 12, 2024, Aureliano Gonzalez peacefully passed away at his home in Weslaco, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and unwavering passion for life.
Aureliano "Aurelio" Gonzalez's journey through life was a testament to the value of hard work and love. Born on September 27, 1936, in Monterey, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Jesus and Maria Luisa (Zuniga) Gonzalez.
Aurelio learned the importance of dedication and perseverance from a young age while working alongside his family in the fields. During these formative years, he met his future wife, Marcelina Santellan. Their love story began to blossom during their travels up North, where Marcelina was a constant companion to Aureliano. In 1957, they solidified their bond in marriage, embarking on a shared path filled with commitment and devotion.
Aurelio and Marcelina raised six children in Weslaco, where they spent the rest of their lives. The Gonzalez family continued to migrate up north and work in the fields. Eventually, Aurelio started his own business. He sold produce to local restaurants for over thirty years. He just retired a few years ago. His strong work ethic and generosity endeared him to those around him, earning him a reputation as reliable and kind-hearted.
Although Aurelio's most significant commitment was supporting his family, he had time for a few hobbies. Aureliano found joy in simple pleasures such as watching old movies and appreciating the comedic genius of "Cantinflas." He loved music and had a great voice. Vicente Fernandez, Antonio Aguilar, Los Invasores de Nuevo Leon, Los Tigres del Norte, are a few of his favorites.
Aurelio also loved sports. His favorite was boxing, but he loved football, the Dallas Cowboys, baseball, and soccer.
Aurelio is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Maria Luisa Gonzalez, their son, Jesus "Chuy" Gonzalez, siblings Armando and Carolina Acosta, sister-in-law Rosie Gonzalez, and brothers-in-law Abdon Gonzalez, David Acosta and Octaviano Cantu.
