Aurelio Barbosa-76, of Weslaco, TX entered into eternal rest on 07/01/2016 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was surrounded by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews at his home. He was born on October 2, 1939 in Weslaco to Aurelio and Alicia Ledesma Barbosa. Aurelio graduated from Weslaco High School and received a Bachelor's of Art degree from Pan American College, a Masters from A&I University Degree as well as Mid Management Certificate. He taught History and English. He enjoyed teaching and loved all of his students. His favorite memories were made being a principal at Mary Hoge Jr. High (now Central Middle School). Aurelio was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students. He retired from Weslaco ISD as HR Director in 2000 after dedicating 40 years to the education of the children of Weslaco. Preceding him in death were his parents, Aurelio and Alicia Ledesma Barbosa and brother, Alonzo Barbosa. Aurelio is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Ann Barbosa, his three children, Mary Jude Cocio (Mark), Marcus Aurelio Barbosa (Lizvia), and Omar Franco (Susana), two sisters, Barbara Wise and Ada Martinez. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces, whom he loved very much. He dedicated his life to family. Family was always first. He was an amazing and loving husband to Mary Ann, his Annie. He was a devoted family man; his children were his best friends. Aurelio cherished being "Welo" and "Dado" to his seven grandchildren: John Anthony and Caitlin Maureen; Marcus Aurelio and Khora Madeline; Omar France, Romel and Derek. His extracurricular passions were reading, fishing, writing poems, listening to 50s music, watching boxing and his favorite crime shows, but most of all, he loved watching the New York Yankees. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held Monday, July 4th, from 12-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7pm. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, July 5th, at 10am at St. Pius Catholic Church.
