Weslaco- Aurora Camargo, 83, passed away on Sunday, September 24th, 2023, at Mid Valley Nursing and Rehab in Mercedes. Aurora was born on January 12th, 1940, to Emilio and Carmen (Escobedo) Alvarez in Harlingen, Texas.
Aurora will be remembered for her remarkable career as a nurse's aide, where she selflessly cared for others with compassion and dedication. Her proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly the countless lives she touched through her work in healthcare. Aurora's commitment to serving others is truly inspiring and will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Aurora worked at Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in San Benito for many years.
Beyond her professional life, Aurora had a vibrant personality that radiated happiness and positivity. She was known for her energetic nature, talkative spirit, and outgoing demeanor. Aurora's charisma drew people toward her and made them feel comfortable in her presence. Her love for music was undeniable, and she often enjoyed singing and dancing to brighten the atmosphere around her.
In her free time, Aurora enjoyed playing Loteria and was an amazing cook. Her mouthwatering dishes like enchiladas, tamales, and fideo con carne were a few of the favorites. She also had a talent for making jewelry, creating beautiful pieces that became treasured gifts for family and friends.
Aurora is preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecilio Camargo, her son Joe Camargo, her daughter, Rosa Briones, and her granddaughter Nora Lisa Uvalle.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Camargo (Margaret), Cecilio Camargo Jr. (Frances), and Jesse Camargo, and sister, Christina A. Thomas (Eugene), daughter-in-law (Rosalinda Camargo, wife of Joe), son-in-law Luis Briones (husband of Rosa), thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, 3-9pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 28th, 10am at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco, followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
