Donna- Aurora January, 95, passed away on May 19th, 2023, at her home in Donna. Aurora was born on December 19th, 1927, to Jose and Dionicia (Mata) Hernandez in Ennis, Texas.
Aurora married Modesto in January 1944. Modesto was a career US Navy officer, so the family moved often.
Aurora was a great homemaker. She loved to bake and cook. She was famous for her pan de polvo, but all her recipes were delicious.
Aurora had a heart of gold and especially enjoyed caring for older people. She worked for over thirty-two years as a caregiver to older adults in her community. Aurora’s compassion was unmatched; she helped countless people get through their later years.
Aurora is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Dionicia Hernandez, husband, Modesto January Jr., son Gilbert January, sister, Maria Moreno, grandson-in-law, Juan R. Martinez, granddaughter-in-law, Norma I. January.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Modest January (Elena), Michele Martinez (Ruben Cantu), Monica Aguilar (Kevin), and Melissa January (Adan Diaz); great-grandchildren, Becca Lee Luna (Riley), Deana Marie Coronado (Irvin), Heaven Rae Diaz, Angel Eleric Diaz, Kaela Skye Diaz, Mark Anthony January (Janie Lozano+), Joshua Modest January, Sasha Shannon January, Ace Freehly January, seven great-great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 23rd, 10 am-6 pm, and Wednesday, May 24th, 11 am-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Graveside service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 25th, at Rio Grande Valley State Veteran Cemetery in Mission.
