Benito G Casares

December 28, 1941 — November 12, 2016

Donna- Benito Casares, 74, passed away on Saturday, November 12th, 2016. Benito was a life long resident of Donna, where he was born to Elpidia Guerrero and Melquiadas Casares. He had one brother, Santiago, and two sisters, Josefina and Elizabeth. When he was old enough, he traveled to and worked in many places (as far as Michigan) as a young adult. His travels eventually took him to California where he was able to attend the first Superbowl in Los Angeles with an admission ticket of just $7.00. He made it back to his roots in the Rio Grande Valley, Donna, Texas, where he would soon start his real legacy, his family. He met Lupita at the McAllen Civic Center in 1968. That same day he predicated to her at a dance, he would be marring her. Let's just say it was love at first sight. They were married on November 7,1970. They had been married 46 years. Benito and Lupita would have five children, Alex, Mollie, Oscar, Isaac, and Jason. They raised their children in Donna and would enjoy many family outings. They took a lot of road trips, traveling to Utah, Michigan, California, Utopia, to name a few and were regular travelers to San Antonio and South Padre Island. Benito was a "jack of all trades". He had many careers. He was in the insurance business for a quite bit. He earned a welding certificate from TSTC and he worked as a welder in Houston and at the Galveston shipyards. He also retired from the custodial department at Donna ISD, after about fifteen years. Although he was retired, he was a very hard worker and continued to earn a living, working well after his retirement. Including maintenance positions at Weslaco Security Depot and McAllen Country Club. Benito loved to have fun. He spent much of his leisure time with family, barbecuing. He was also a sports fan. He loved boxing and his favorite football team was the Raiders. He enjoyed fishing and he was a well known "pool shark". Benito is preceded in death by his parents, Elpidia Guerrero and Melquiadas Casares and his brother, Santiago De Leon. He is survived by his loving wife, Lupita, his children, Alex Casares (Annette)of Weslaco, Mollie Estes (James) of Donna, Oscar Casares (Ariana) of Weslaco, Isaac Casares of Donna, and Jason Casares (Amy) of Weslaco, 9 grandchildren, Joshua Casares, Carissa Casares, Matthew Casares, Kody Estes, James Estes, and Oscar Estes, Ben Ryan Casares, Vincent Casares (and soon to be here Zelda Casares) and 3 great grandchildren, Zoey Casares, Lucas Casares, and Savannah Alvarado. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 14th, from 2-9pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Chapel and funeral service will be held at Latter Day Saints Church of Weslaco on Tuesday, November 15th at 11am. Benito will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a great sense of humor and a loving, kind heart.
