Progreso - Bernardo Macias, a beloved husband, father, friend, and community member, passed away at his home on August 8, 2023. Born on August 20, 1926, in Villa Encarnación de Díaz Jalisco, Mexico, Bernardo's life was a testament to hard work, generosity, and love.
Bernardo married his soulmate, Maria D Flores Rodriguez, in January 1952. They raised eleven children together and eventually migrated to Progreso where they spent the rest of their lives.
Bernardo's career spanned many years and industries. As a young adult, he worked in agriculture as a migrant. Bernardo and his family would travel to Michigan in the summers for many years. He was a hard worker and always ensured his wife could stay home and take care of the children.
Bernardo eventually ventured into carpentry and construction, where he flourished as a skilled craftsman. His dedication and attention to detail were evident in every project he undertook.
But Bernardo's true passion lay in his work and the relationships he built with those around him. He was known for his warm heart and open arms to all who crossed his path. Family and friends meant the world; he cherished the moments spent together.
Christmas in the Macias family was especially cherished. The aroma of freshly made bueñelos lingered in the air as he gathered with loved ones around a table filled with hot cocoa and coffee. These simple yet joyous occasions exemplified the love and unity that defined Bernardo's family.
Although Bernardo passed away at home, his spirit will live on through the memories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He touched the lives of many with his acts of kindness and selflessness.
One particular example of Bernardo's giving nature was when he actively participated in rebuilding the Catholic church in Nuevo Progreso. He also was one of the first to respond after a devastating explosion, helping to save numerous victims. His dedication to serving others knew no bounds, and he poured his heart into restoring the place of worship for the entire community.
Bernardo was an outdoorsman. Whether taming horses or exploring the great outdoors with friends and family, Bernardo respected and enjoyed the beauty of God's creation. He was a true horse lover and uniquely connected with these majestic creatures.
Not only was Bernardo a skilled craftsman and a nature enthusiast, but he was also a captivating storyteller. Gathering loved ones together, he would weave tales that transported everyone to different worlds, capturing their imaginations and hearts. With each passing year, his stories grew more vivid and enchanting.
In addition to his remarkable personality, Bernardo had an unbreakable bond with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Pascual Macias Agripina Cordova, his loving wife, Maria Macias, and their daughter Maria del Refugio Macias de Martinez.
