Betty Ann Gatton
June 10, 1929 — November 18, 2015
WESLACO – Betty Ann Gatton, 86, came into this world on June 10, 1929 in Jackson, Tennessee as the child of William A. and Gladys (Pearcy) McLemore. Betty moved to Harlingen at the age of 13. She was received into the church triumphant at her death November 18, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.
She became a Child of God through her baptism in the Hayes Ave. Methodist Church in Jackson and was confirmed in her faith at Grace Lutheran Church, Harlingen Texas. She met and married the love of her life William R. Gatton and were together until his death in 2008. She attended Harlingen High School where she carried the bass drum for the marching band. She was City Secretary for the City of Weslaco for a number of years before she and her husband became the owners of Clyde’s Pet Shop. They did Dog Grooming for a number of years after closing the pet shop. Betty remained very active in Weslaco’s political scene throughout her life.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mercedes, Texas where she served as the head of the Altar Guild for a number of years. She took great pride and satisfaction in her service to her Lord and His Church during that time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and other family members. She is survived by her children: John (Monica) Ellington of San Antonio, William R. (Rae Kae) Gatton Jr of Weslaco, Cathy (David) Ault of McAllen, Jean Ann (Ron) Woodman of Laguna Vista, and Priscilla Magouirk of New Brunsfels, TX as well as a host of grand, great-grand, and great great-grandchildren. Also a host of friends and relatives.
Her physical presence will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched over the years.
Pallbearers will be Robby Gatton, Joicie Gatton, Jaime Gatton, Zefraine Hinojosa, David Ault, and Billy Gatton Jr.
Officiating will be Rev. James M. Edge, Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mercedes.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 4pm – 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
Funeral will be on Monday, November 23, 2015, 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mercedes with burial to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mercedes.
