Betty Swarner

HARLINGEN / MERCEDES - Betty Jo (Pressly) Swarner, 91, died on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Golden Palms in Harlingen, TX. She was born in Yoakum, TX on May 11, 1927 to Saxon and Maude (McHenry) Pressly. Mrs. Swarner graduated from A & I University in Kingsville, TX. She taught school in Mercedes. Mrs. Swarner was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and a life-long Presbyterian. On September 2, 1950 she married Edgar (Ned) Maclay Swarner. They enjoyed 68 years together. He predeceased her on October 2, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Denny) Langston; son, Edgar Swarner, Jr.; two granddaughters, Kelsey Jo Langston & Courtney Langston; a niece, Marilyn Taylor; two nephews, David Pressly & John Pressly and her best friend for over 70 years, Mildred Twenhafel. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Mercedes, TX. Memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
