Pharr-Billie Roscoe Cellum, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Amara Hospice Hospital. He was born April 8, 1927 in Charleston, Texas. He had fond feelings for Charleston as his father who died at an early age was buried in a Charleston Cemetery. At the age of 8 years old Bille moved to the Rio Grande Valley with his family to join members of his family who already lived in the Edcouch-Elsa area. Billie was the youngest of a family of eight children.

Billie was a true produce man. At an early age he began his career in the produce industry. He enjoyed his work as a produce salesman and broker. He was well known in the produce industry. He was on the original committee of the Produce Hall of Fame and was very helpful in knowing the members of the Texas Fruit and Vegetable industry. He was elected to that industry Hall of Fame himself. Billie served his country during World War Two. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served on an LST in the Philippine Campaign. When he returned from the Navy he settled in the Edcouch Elsa area. He served on the Edcouch Elsa school board two terms. He also pitched softball in the RGV softball league where he made lasting friends, Billie was a 32nd degree mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife and friends. He most enjoyed attending Edcouch Elsa football games with his friends Lloyd Hesterly. He was a true EE Yellowjacket fan. Billie was preceded in death by brothers Myrl Coonie, Doc, and Woodie Cellum, sisters Sybil Archer, Melba Fower and Margaret Garrett. He is survived by his wife Hazel, son Mitch Cellum daughter Tam Cellum. Two stepsons Rick Van and Kendall Van, their children and grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews who all called him Uncle Billie. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of choice.

Pallbearers will be Rick Cellum, Tom Cellum, Rick Van, Kendall Van, Dale DeBerry and Thad Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Bob McIntosh, Bo Ellis and Lloyd Hesterly. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday, March 24th.
