Billy T. Bell

WESLACO - Billy Tom "B.T." Bell was born August 15, 1929 in San Juan, Texas to James Lewis Bell and Martha Ester Glen Bell. He attended school in McAllen, Texas, before graduating from Schreiner Institute in Kerrville. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951, serving most of the time in White Sands, New Mexico; was honorably discharged in 1953. He farmed in the McAllen area. Later, he worked for Brown and Root in Houston and was proud that he helped with the building of the Houston Intercontinental Airport as well as expanding/enlarging the DFW Airport. He returned to the Valley, worked for Bell Brothers; then worked for the Texas Water Commission as Deputy Water Master for 12 years before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bobbie; a son Brad Bell of Dallas; step-children Lynda Arnold of Euless; Jamie Roark of Houston; Michael Roark of San Antonio; Jonda Leitch of Dallas; also a grandson Markus Bell of Dallas; a sister Ruth Miller of San Antonio; numerous nieces and nephews; and close dear friend Louis Zimmerer. Bill was active in the Antique Farm Equipment Club, serving as President for many years. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Weslaco Elks Lodge. He was an active member of the Weslaco First United Methodist Church, serving as an usher/greeter. A memorial service will be held at McCaleb Funeral Home on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 2pm with Pastor J.J. Wicke officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to FUMC, 520 S. Illinois, Weslaco; or The Aurora House, 2646 West 18th Street, Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
