Bobby "Bob" Lee Davis

October 7, 1930 — March 18, 2016

Bob L. Davis, 85 of Weslaco passed away March 18, 2016. He was born in Santa Rosa, Texas on October 7, 1930. Bob attended elementary school in Edinburg, graduated from Weslaco High School in 1949, and married Joveta Johnson a month later. He claims his marriage to Jo was his greatest accomplishment in his life. They had three sons, Gary Lee (Deceased 1993), Alan Davis (Bandera, TX), and Dale Davis (Boerne, TX).

In high school Bob worked at Weslaco Rexall Corner Drug store on Main Street in Weslaco, and worked in the Furniture Upholstery business as he and Jo started their family. Later, Bob became the Vice President of Mid Valley Bank, started Bob Davis Insurance, and he joined his father PF Davis in the family business, Davis Real Estate Company. As a real estate broker for over 70 years Bob was recognized as one of the key brokers for large institutional income farms and ranches in South Texas.

As a committed citizen of Weslaco, Bob served as a Weslaco City Commissioner and he lobbied Senators and Legislators in Austin for key economic and crime issues for the city of Weslaco and the Rio Grande Valley.

One of Bob’s favorite and most rewarding experiences was being the founder of the Donna Iglesia Mission, a Spanish speaking church in Donna, TX. He ministered in that church for nine years while raising a family and running businesses.

In 1961 Bob was awarded Man of the year for the City of Weslaco, and he served on the Board of Mid Valley Bank starting in 1960. Bob was compassionate about his civic involvement and served as the President of Weslaco Lions Club 1963-1964, and as District Governor of Lions Club International 1965-66. He has also served on the Hidalgo Cameron Water District Board, and as a Deacon at First Baptist Church Weslaco. More recently, Bob served as the President of the Board of Directors for John Knox Village in Weslaco, where he enjoyed directing the development of new residences and upgrades to the retirement community.

Through the Davis Companies, Bob has been an Investor and Developer for Multiple Residential Subdivisions and Commercial Properties in the RGV and Central Texas.
Bob was honored to be inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame in 2014.

Above all else, his greatest joy and passion was being a husband, father and “Papaw Bob” to his 12 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents P.F. and Velma Davis, brother Roy Davis and son Gary Lee Davis.

His survivors include his sons Alan Davis (Virginia), Dale Davis (Sherry); sisters Joyce Coley and Janie Harbison (Bobby); grandchildren Chad Davis (Julie), Chris Davis (Kari), Justin Davis (April), Lauren Davis; great grandchildren Calvary, Caleb, Cotton, Canon, Hazel, Blain, Logan, & Tanner.

Pallbearers are Chad Davis, Chris Davis, Justin Davis, Matthew Jones, Randy Summers and Ray Harbison.
