WESLACO - Bonnie Morgan Schwarz was born in the Rio Grande Valley and lived there all of her 83 years. She spent her school days in Mission where she was crowned Queen Citriana, raised her four children in Mercedes, and spent her later years in Weslaco. She loved her family fiercely - daughter Sherri (wife to Benny Cherry), sons Gary (husband to Marlee), Mark (husband to Tami), and Brad (husband to Susan), her 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren (plus one more on the way). She was best of friends with her sister Pat (wife to Glenn) and adored her many nieces and nephews. Bonnie’s two greatest heartaches in this world were the loss of her son Mark in 1993 and her husband Marvin of 62 years in 2012, but now they are all together again.
Bonnie was a true Texas lady. She was known all of her days for her beauty, her unfailing grace, her deep-deep love and caring for others, and her enduring strength. She was a woman of faith and courage. Her faith sustained her through many losses and accompanied her in many more joys. She was beautiful, inside and out, and her beauty made others stop and take notice, and pointed back to the Author of Beauty, the Lord, who filled her life and guided her path. She was strong, hopeful, respectful, beautiful, graceful, elegant, fearless, strong-minded, and honest; she was a fighter.
Bonnie was a homemaker and a mother, but she didn’t just keep her home and raise her children. She created and offered Home to everyone she came in contact with. She bestowed hospitality constantly and she was known for being the most sincere and faithful listener, caring and compassionate at all times. She loved welcoming others and inviting them in, ready with a pitcher of sweet tea or a platter of sweets. She made every single person who crossed through her door feel loved and cared for and made them feel really and truly at home. Everyone who knew Bonnie loved her, and she always loved them twice as much in return.
Bonnie loved visiting with dear friends and hosting sleepovers for her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. She loved stories and getting lost in a good book or movie. She loved pretty things- jewelry and perfume and clothes and makeup. She loved shopping and Starbucks and sweets. She loved to give gifts and make people feel special. She loved her Lord, her friends, her family. She loved, and she loved, and she loved! Love was the rhythm of her days and the beat of her heart.
Bonnie loved her family beyond all other earthly things, and she somehow made everyone who crossed her path a part of that family, opening her arms and heart and folding them into belonging. She was fiercely loyal and protective of those she loved. She was devoted to her husband and longed to be reunited with him in Eternal Life.
Today her family is honoring the life of this grace-filled woman. A memorial celebration will be held at First Baptist Church of Weslaco at 3:30 pm. As Bonnie was a breast-cancer survivor, donations may be made in her name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org
