Carol Jean Cowden

WESLACO - Carol Jean Cowden, 85, left to be with the Lord on September 1, 2014.
Carol was born to Garland “Froggie” and Jane Margaret Lovvorn in Ralls, Texas on May 3, 1929. Carol is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack Cowden, son Art (Kathy), grandsons Travis (Stephanni), Jason, and Nathan (Nancy). She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren Aaron, Mariska, Jaxon, her brother Frank (Leslie), beloved cousin Connye (Billy) Busa, four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother James Edward Lovvorn. Carol graduated from San Benito High School in 1945. She attended Brownsville Junior College and Texas A&I where she received a degree in English and Speech at the age of 19. She received a masters in counseling from Texas A&I in 1967. Carol spent 37 years in education; most at Mercedes High School. She touched & motivated many young students with her positive & loving manner. After her retirement she pursued her passion for golf. She joined the Harlingen Country Club Women’s Golf Association. Many of the ladies of the association became her best friends for life.
Carol fought a gallant fight with cancer and in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2014 at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel.
