Cesar Alejandro Roque Sr., a beloved father, accomplished architect, and passionate artist, departed this life on August 26, 2024, at Knapp Medical Center. Born on September 22, 1975, in Monroe, Michigan, Cesar was the eldest of five children. He dedicated his life to his family and career, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity.
Cesar's journey was a testament to resilience and hard work. As a migrant, he faced challenges that could have deterred many, but instead, they forged his determined spirit. After spending spring and summers up north, Cesar returned to school eager to learn. He was naturally intelligent, but his thirst for knowledge led him to enroll in Sci-Tech High School, where he graduated in 1989.
Cesar chose a career in construction where he could perfect his skills. He wore many hats in the industry, working his way up the ladder from a hand drafter to project manager and, ultimately, an architect. Cesar's career with ROFA Architects (Rike, Ogden, Figueroa, Allex) spanned fifteen years. Cesar was a life-long learner and took every opportunity afforded to gain knowledge. While contributing to his team at ROFA, he drew and sketched new ideas, concepts, or designs in his spare time. Cesar's vacations were planned around the city's architecture, and Mexico City was a favorite vacation spot. When his boys were young, they took a road trip with stops all based on modern architecture. Cesar studied and admired the work of famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. In 2021, Cesar fulfilled a lifelong goal of becoming a licensed architect. Cesar's natural affinity for construction, building design, and art enabled him to contribute to numerous projects, each reflecting the pride he held from inception to completion. As proud as Cesar was of his accomplishments, he continuously strived to be a simple and humble man, remembering where it all started; working hard among family and friends. Even when he earned the nickname "El Profe" amongst colleagues because of his inherent ability to answer any question, Cesar’s modesty prevailed.
Beyond his professional accolades, Cesar's love for his family was a defining aspect of his life. He was often described as a great father and a devoted family man. His passion for life was infectious, and his intelligence and wonderful sense of humor made him a cherished presence to those who knew him. Cesar's love for his family was evident; he found great joy in barbecue gatherings, surrounded by laughter, good music, and great company. His love for his family radiated from him, warming the hearts of all who knew him.
In addition to his family dedication, Cesar was an artist at heart. His interests, spanning architectural art, classical music, and journaling, showcased his creativity. He also took immense pleasure in documenting family history and nurturing connections that would be cherished for generations. Cesar enjoyed reading and even the smell of books. As an avid soccer fan, he proudly cheered for his home country of Mexico, often enjoying watching matches with friends and family. His artistic talents shone through not only in his sketches and designs but also in his elegant handwriting, which spoke to his appreciation for beauty in all forms. However, Cesar loved all genres of music. He and Priscilla enjoyed priceless nights on the dance floor with family and friends. Finally, Cesar loved being outdoors and appreciating the beauty of nature. He enjoyed the beach, fishing, camping, and hiking.
Cesar's Catholic faith and salvation were crucial to his life. He volunteered as a CCD Teacher, attended and organized many retreats as an ACTS brother, read the Bible often, and wore a cross and bracelet as symbols to remind him of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Cesar's faith was evident in his daily life. Cesar was a man with an impeccable reputation of respect and integrity. He had a heart of gold, a warm and caring personality, and was always the first to volunteer when needed. As the eldest child, Cesar often checked in on his parents and siblings to ensure their needs were met.
Cesar is survived by his parents, Cesareo and Irma (Rodriguez) Roque; his sons, Cesar A. Roque Jr.(Jaqueline Villanueva), Jose Isaac Roque (Kari Smith), and David Daniel Roque, his long-time partner and best friend Priscilla Salinas and her daughter, Meagan; siblings, Rachel Roque, Jesse Roque, Dayene Roldan, and Fernando Roque, mother of his children and ex-wife, Sonia Martinez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
