Charles Arthur Armstrong Jr.

January 1, 1953 — September 20, 2024

Weslaco

Weslaco- Charles Arthur Armstrong Jr., fondly known as "Brother Charles" to his friends, departed to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven on the lively morning of September 20, 2024. His life was a vibrant tapestry woven with his charismatic personality and a deep-seated passion for serving others.

Charles was born on January 1, 1953, in Elyria, Ohio, where he grew up. After graduating high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably for six years. His military service underscored his lifelong commitment to duty and community, qualities that would shine through in every endeavor he pursued.

Charles chose a career in truck driving, dedicating many years to this profession and working for various companies. His most impactful role in Charles's life was with UPS. While delivering packages to a local doctor's office, his soulmate happened to be working in the front office. Their connection blossomed into a beautiful marriage on October 17, 1987, at the Bethel Baptist Church in McAllen, with two lovely daughters and companionship for the rest of his life.

Charles and Ida spent a lot of time together at home, but they could light up a dance floor with their energy, flawless moves, personalities, and passion. Charles also spent much time with friends, whether studying the Bible, talking about the Lord, or having coffee at his favorite restaurant, Denny's.

Beyond his work in transportation, Charles had a passion for sports. He was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan, and his favorite basketball team was the Cleveland Cavaliers. Charles watched every sport. Since his daughter started working in Mishawaka, Indiana, they talked about attending a college football game, possibly at Notre Dame. Charles's passion led him to take on the role of a referee. This part-time job was a perfect fit for him, allowing him to immerse himself in an activity he loved while being part of a community. His outgoing and friendly nature made him a beloved figure among friends and colleagues.

Charles was a family man. His wife and daughters were his driving force, but being a grandfather brought him overwhelming joy. Charles was the ideal grandfather, including his furry grandchild. He would spoil the children and Theodore when he visited with nonstop playful activities.

Charles's faith was not just a part of his life; it was his life. A devoted child of God, he actively participated in his church community. His unwavering presence at Sunday School, worship services, Wednesday night Bible studies, weekend socials, and special events, unless he was out of town, was a testament to his character and his profound impact on those around him. In the past few years, Charles has been working on earning a degree through Stark College & Seminary. His thirst for knowledge was evident by his professors and colleagues, and he was awarded a degree less than a month ago.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Charles Arthur Sr. and Sally Mae Armstrong, his sister, Doreathea A. Armstrong, and his brother, Gregory Armstrong.

Charles leaves behind his beloved wife, Ida; their daughters, Angela Rae Berru (David) and Kimberly Jean Armstrong; his son, Adrian Armstrong; granddaughters, Elizabeth Ryan Eitzen and Rory Berru; grandson, Rogelio Berru; his siblings, Charlene Jones (Loraine, OH), Linda Irby (Sacremento, CA), Denise Whitfield (Gladstone, MO), and Ray F. Armstrong (Cindy) (Fostoria, OH); his Uncle Clarence L. Bush (Elryia, OH); and his furbaby, Theodore Roosevelt Armstrong.
