Charles Ligon

Robstown/Weslaco-Charles Ligon, 89, passed away on Saturday, February 6th in Corpus Christi. Robstown-Charles Wilson Ligon, 89 passed away Saturday, February 6th, 2016.

Charlie was born January 9th, 1927 in Lebanon, Tennessee to Robert Peyton Ligon and Ethyl Mae Brown. He was the youngest of three children and affectionately known to his siblings as "Bubba". He was raised in Lebanon, TN and attended and graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy. He joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard the USS Dobin navel destroyer tender throughout the remainder of WWII. Charlie returned to Tennessee after the war.

Charlie then went on to attend the University of Virginia and graduated with a finance degree. He began a career in banking and retired after 35 years as President of First American National Bank of Nashville.

In the early 80s he moved to Weslaco, TX and assisted his sister "Susie" in managing and operating the landmark restaurant, "The Bronco".

Charlie was a third degree Mason. He loved playing his guitar, especially with his older brother or daughter. Charlie loved camping in his later years and was still camping at his favorite spots in Texas, well into his 80s. Mostly, Charlie enjoyed spending time with family,

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Lee Polvado Ligon, 2 daughters, Shannon Lee Ligon of Honolulu, HI and Ashley Carolyn Brouwer of Peagram, TN, a son, Charles Wilson Ligon II, a stepdaughter Janine Miller Pruski (Thom) of Robstown, a stepson, James HE Miller II (Lee Ann) of Willow Park, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Ethyl, his brother, Robert Brown Ligon and his sister, Mary Evelyn "Susie" Ligon.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco and a chapel service will be held at 2pm on Thursday at McCaleb Funeral Home with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Pruski Jr., Evan Pruski, James Miller II, Conner Miller, Sean Miller, Randy Polvado. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Polvado, Mike Polvado, C.C. Sherwood and Nicky Brouwer.
