Weslaco- Cirildo Garcia Sr., a devoted husband, father, and community pillar, passed away on July 5th, 2024, at Weslaco Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on July 9th, 1928, in Weslaco, Texas, to Jose Bacilio and Julia (Reyes) Garcia. He grew up in Saltillo, Mexico, but when Cirildo was a teenager, his Godfather convinced Cirildo's parents to let him return to the United States.
Cirildo's life was marked by hard work and dedication. Cirildo worked odd jobs, starting with the railroads and picking different crops. After a period, he returned to Mexico and started learning masonry from his father. Cirildo met his soulmate, Aurora Saucedo, in Matamoros at about this time. They were married in 1947 and spent the rest of their lives together, raising twelve children in Weslaco. Cirildo continued to go back and forth between Weslaco and Mexico, earning money where he could. For many years, the Garcia family would spend summers working up north as migrants. Eventually, Cirildo's strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to Aurora allowed her to be a cherished homemaker while he pursued a career as a bricklayer in new construction projects. Known for his resilience and determination, Cirildo tirelessly took on multiple jobs from dawn to dusk to ensure the well-being of his family.
Outside of work, Cirildo found solace in his faith and community. A devout Christian, his love for the Lord was central to his being. He actively participated in building churches across the Rio Grande Valley and dedicated countless hours to studying the Bible and nurturing his relationship with God. At Iglesia Bautista Las Palmas, Cirildo served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and engaged fervently in prayer for others. Cirildo would start daily by reading his Bible and meditating on God's word. Then he would sit down and pray for every member of the vast Garcia family, community prayer needs, and national. Cirildo was a relentless prayer warrior.
Amidst his busy schedule, Cirildo always found time to enjoy life's simple pleasures. He loved watching boxing matches and cherished moments of togetherness with his family during barbecues.
Cirildo will be remembered as an excellent provider and disciplinarian when needed, always guided by tough love. His straightforward nature and honesty were his defining traits, impacting all who knew him.
Cirildo is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Julia Garcia; his loving wife, Aurora; his sons, Ramiro Garcia (and his wife Gloria) and Francisco Garcia.
