Clifford Jarrett

Harlingen- Clifford H. Jarrett Jr., 85, passed away July 9, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas. Born October 6, 1931 in Milan, Tennessee to Clifford Hogan Jarrett Sr. and Wilma Johnston Jarrett, his family moved to Edcouch TX about 1937. As a child, Cliff took art lessons from well-known Valley artist Roy Keister. Graduating from Edcouch-Elsa High School, he received a B.A degree in Art from Abilene Christian College. His artistic talents earned him many art honors in college, where he was cartoonist for The Optimist. He served 2 years in the Army. He was married to Mabel Stanley from 1956 to 1972. A talented artist, Cliff was Art Director for KRBC in Abilene when local commercials were painted on art boards and held in front of the camera, and later was Art Director for the Texas Farm Bureau Magazine. Cliff worked for several oil companies as a draftsman and taught drafting at TSTC in Harlingen for many years until he retired. Most of Cliff's life was spent in the Valley where he enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He also enjoyed playing pool and competed regularly with his friends and in occasional tournaments. Most of all, Cliff loved to meet and talk with friends, new and old. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Williams, he is survived by daughter Judy Jarrett-Sexton, Las Cruces NM; son, Jeff Jarrett, Richardson TX; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 15 at the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ, 801 E. Harrison, Harlingen.
