Crecencia Garces

Mercedes- Crecencia Garces, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco. She was born on February 24th, 1939 to Antonio and Delfina Gonzalez. She married her next door neighbor, Martin Garces and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage, raising their six boys in Progreso, Texas. The family worked hard together, migrating to Florida every year, but the boys fondly remember Florida as a vacation, as their parents always rewarded them for their hard work when the season was over. Crecencia and Martin loved to dance. She was a great dancer, but she also loved dressing up to go out dancing. She loved to put on makeup and perfume. She loved scents and even collected perfumes. Crecencia was an excellent cook and as soon as anyone would come to her home, she immediately began cooking. She made tamales, homemade tortillas and just about anything the kids wanted to eat. As one might expect, raising six children, she was a bargain shopper and negotiator. She loved to go to the local flea markets and find hidden treasures. When she did, she always talked the vendors down to what she wanted to pay. After raising her own children, Crecencia continued raising her grandchildren. She was a great grandmother and helped raise all of the grandchildren, from feeding them to caring for them after school while their parents worked. When Crecencia wasn't dancing, cooking, bargain hunting, or caring for her grandchildren, she enjoyed catching up on her novelas. Crecencia is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Isamael Garces, her grandchildren, Tomas and Ruben Garces, her brothers, Porfilio, Juan, Benito, and Tomas Gonzalez, and her sister, Amalia Gonzalez. She is survived by her loving husband, Martin Garces Sr., her sons, Martin Garces Jr. (Maria), Rafael Garces (Sonia), Guillermo Garces (San Juan), Toribio Garces (Barbarita) of Weslaco, Antonio Garces (Adriana) of Mercedes, grandchildren, Toribio Jr & Karla Garces, Esmeralda Garces Leal & Alberto Leal, Veronica Garces & Arturo Rodriguez, Martin III & Cynthia Garces, Aurelio & Maribel Garces, Julio Cesar Garces, Victor Manuel Garces & Brittany Trevino, Irasema & Octavio, Ismael Jr & Nidia Garces all of Weslaco, Adrian Garces Imelda Garces, Israel Garces, of Progreso, Miguel Angel Garces , Audrey Garces, Ariana Garces, Antonio Jr Garces & Cassandra Sandoval, Rafael Garces Jr & Marda Garces, Maricruz Garces , D. Garces, Guillermo Garces Jr and Lupita Diaz, all of Weslaco, Cresencia Garces and Ricky Gonzalez of Pharr, Martin Garces, Crystal & Jose Hernandez of Progreso, Janie Garces and Alex Garcia Mendoza of Mercedes, Jeanette Garces Villarreal and Emilio Villarreal, and numerous nephews and nieces.
