MERCEDES - Daniel Victor "Dan" Cantu of Mercedes, Tx, moved on to the "Great Gig in the Sky" on September 16, 2016. Dan was born July 4, 1965 to Daniel and Evangelina Cantu. He graduated with the Mercedes Class of '83. A self-proclaimed "jerk," Dan enjoyed the finer things in life: a cold beer, playing music, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a professional musician, and worked part time serving drinks and making friends at Larry's Blue Bar in Mercedes. "Dan the Man" is survived by his loving wife, Candi Cantu; children, Chelsea, Daniel Ray, Beth, and their respective spouses; his parents and sister, Cristina; five grandbabies (two human, three furry); his in-laws, Arland and Grace Lewis; sister-in-law, Teresa (Charles) Hartman and their children, Katy and Miles. He is also survived by a plethora of aunts, uncles and cousins, his large music family and the gang at Larry's Blue Bar. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 12pm to 9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. A fundraiser for the family and "jam session" will be held at the Blue Bar on Thursday night. A memorial service with live music will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Mercedes Civic Center. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
