Darrell Ray Smith passed away on March 18, 2022, at the age of 68. He was born in Edinburg, Texas, on February 19, 1954, to Calvin Herman Smith and Helen Marcella Sherrell Smith. He grew up in Edcouch, Texas, graduating from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1972. He attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, Texas, earning an Associate Degree in Entomology. He lived and worked in several places in Texas, including Caldwell, Donna, McAllen, and Santa Rosa. He moved from South Texas to retire in Marquez, Texas.
Darrell was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and American Paint Horse Association (APHA). Hunting in South Texas was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren show rabbits at local fairs, and attending their sporting events.
