Pharr- David Tijerina, 77, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020. On October 19, 1942, David was born to Reynaldo and Elisa Castillo Tijerina in Raymondville, Texas.
David became a pastor at the age of twenty-one. Ministry was David's passion, and he lived to serve the Lord and others. David saved thousands of lives in his short time on Earth. David never left home without a salvation "track." He handed them out to everyone, and his mission was to bring people to Christ so they could have eternal life. Thirty eight years ago, David was the Founder and lead pastor at Iglesia Bautista Calvario south of Pharr. With his bride, Minerva, by his side, founded numerous missions throughout the Valley and across Mexico's border. He served in Niari, Guatemala with Indians and countless other hard to reach locations throughout his ministry.
Some things David enjoyed doing were fishing and spending time at the beach. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and owned several throughout his life.
David was generous and kind. He was loving, caring, patient, and smart. David was very passionate about his ministry and was a faithful man of God. He never said no to God's calling in his life, and his wife, Minerva, supported him no matter where his ministry led him.
Well done, my good and faithful servant is certainly how David was embraced by his Savior and welcomed into his eternal home. He is reunited with his parents, Reynaldo and Elisa Tijerina, brothers, Noe Tijerina, Elias Tijerina, and Ruben Castillo, and sister, Ester Magallan.
David is survived by his wife of forty one years, Minerva, children, Estella Irene Bitner (Hubert) of Plano, Rodolfo Tijerina (Maria) of Houston, Samuel Luis Tijerina (Kathy) of Ohio, Isaac Roberto Tijerina of McAllen, David Tijerina Jr. (Marcie) of Houston, Adan Tijerina (Marivel) of Edinburg, Eva Ruth Alfaro (Israel), Sara Tijerina Quezada (Jonathan) of Pharr, and Jennifer Tijerina of Pharr.
Visitation will be Friday, August 21st, 10am-9pm, with a prayer service from 6-8pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be Saturday, 10am, at Iglesia Bautista Calvario Church in Pharr.
