Daymon Monday

MCALLEN - Graveside Service for Daymon Monday, a longtime Rio Grande Valley resident, who died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 95 will be conducted at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00am.

Daymon was born on December 7th, 1920 in Commerce, Texas, to Rose and JC (Jim) Monday. Daymon met his future bride, Mary Virginia Carns, while he was stationed in San Diego, where she was the bookkeeper at the famous "Coronado Hotel". They would marry soon and start a family. They had four children, Corrinne , Jay Daymon, Michael Alan, Jon Patrick (JP).

Daymon was a Naval Officer during World War II serving mostly in the Southwest Pacific under the command of Adm Barbee's Amphibous Force, also known as "McAurthur's Navy". He was the recipient of seven Bronze Battle Stars, A Navy Unit Commendation, A Philippine Presidential Citation, and The Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He exemplified honor, duty and courage.

Mr. Monday first moved to the Valley in 1948, living in Donna for ten years. In 1958, he moved to Dallas, where he was a Manufacturing Engineer with Texas Instruments until 1971.

He would then return to Donna where he started his Home Building Business. With most of his business in McAllen and his wife's early passing in 1981, he decided to make McAllen his home and spend the rest of his life there.

He enjoyed his time spent at his ranch in Stonewall, Texas and watching the San Antonio Spurs.

Daymon is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Jim Monday, his wife, Mary Carns (Ginny), and his son, Michael Alan.

He is survived by his children, Corrinne M. Powell (Graham) of Naunton, England, Jay Daymon of San Antonio, Jon Patrick (Linda) of McAllen, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and his beloved and dedicated housekeeper who cared for him tirelessly, Aydee Hernandez.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 224, Stonewall, TX 78671.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 6pm - 8pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
