DONNA - Dedrick Terveen, Jr. (Buddy), age 93, of Donna, TX met his Lord and Savior on January 15, 2019. Buddy, as everyone knew him, was born February 5, 1925, in Emery, South Dakota. When he was two, his parents traveled by train to the Valley and re-established their farm north of Donna. Buddy attended school at Central Elementary and Donna High School. He played football and tuba in high school. After high school, he farmed with his father for a few years and was drafted in 1944 to serve in World War II in Germany. While he was in Germany between 1944-1946, he received medals of honor for serving his country. After the war, he came back to the farm with his father and met the love of his life, Marjorie Holmstrom from Hastings, MN. They married October 1, 1946, at North Donna Baptist Church. Buddy and Marjorie raised four sons and one daughter together and lived on a farm north of Donna. Later, he farmed The Double T Ranch with his cousin, Lawrence Terveen. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Dedrick Sr. and Kate Roskin Terveen; siblings, Melvin Terveen, Leola Terveen, Donald Terveen, and Eunice Harms; and sons, Donnie and Kenny Terveen. Buddy is survived by his wife, Marjorie Terveen of Pharr, TX; Linda Terveen of Frisco, TX (Donnie), Vickey Terveen (Kenny) of McAllen; son Dede Terveen (Melinda) of Arlington, TX; daughter Joan Terveen Lavender (James) of Lewisville, TX; and son Melvin Terveen (Beverly) of Weslaco, TX; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and eight great, great-grandchildren.. During Buddy's life, he served as Superintendent, deacon, song leader, and served on the board at Central Valley Baptist Church of Donna, Texas. Buddy was a lifelong member until the church closed in 1998. He had a desire and dedication to serve the Lord and lead his family with God first in his life. Daily, he and Marjorie would start their day with reading scripture, Our Daily Bread, and prayed for every person diligently in their family. Buddy opened his home to missionaries, visitors, and visited the sick. In later years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Weslaco, served on the board, and was a deacon. Buddy was an upstanding person in the community and was well respected. He had a sense of humor, an avid sports fan, and loved to sing. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren adored him. When he retired, Buddy and Marjorie traveled, enjoyed family, and life at the farm. They moved to Brook Ridge Retirement Community in Pharr, Texas. Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25th, 2019, 10 am at First Baptist Church of Weslaco with Pastor Steven Parker officiating at 600 S Kansas in Weslaco, TX 78596. (Burial will be a private service at Donna City Cemetery.) Honorary pallbearers are grandsons; Ryan Terveen, Justin Terveen, Lance Terveen, William Lavender, Cameron Terveen, and nephew Robert Harms.
