Demecia Martinez

WESLACO - Demecia Martinez, 78, passed away on Sunday, December 10th, 2017 at her residence in Weslaco. She was born on October 31st, 1939 to Bernardino and Francisca Salinas in Mexico. She came to Weslaco and married Jose Martinez in May of 1960 and they spent the next 54 years together. They raised their five children in Weslaco and attended St Joan of Arc. Demecia was a hard worker, she worked at McManus produce for most of her adult life, while raising her children. She enjoyed crocheting and her specialty was making baby blankets and quilts. She loved the holiday season because it was the time of year when she would make her famous tamales. She enjoyed traveling to San Antonio and especially Eagle Pass where she loved to play the slot machines. Demecia also enjoyed watching her novelas on television. Demecia is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Jose. She is survived by her children, Juana Rodriguez (Bernardino) of Donna, Jose Martinez Jr. (Martha) of Donna, David Martinez of Weslaco, Dianna Martinez (David) of Weslaco, and Rose Martinez (Leonel) of McAllen, her grandchildren, Justin Rodriguez, Jamika Rodriguez, Joe D Rodriguez, Joey Martinez (Kim), Adrian Martinez (Laura), Denise Lopez (Edward), Jannette Lopez (Thomas), Enriqua Cepeda (Eric), David Martinez Jr., and Kai Vela, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9am-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home chapel, with a rosary at 7pm. Mass will be held on Wednesday, at 10am, at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
