Weslaco- Domingo "Mingo" Cabrera peacefully entered his eternal home, with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Edinburg Regional Hospital. Mingo was born on April 17, 1932 to Lucas and Filomena (De Leon) Cabrera. Mingo was a man of many talents and a heart full of faith whose life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment.
Mingo earned his CDL and embarked on a career as a truck, taxi driver, and bus driver. His exceptional skills behind the wheel didn't go unnoticed, as he was awarded the prestigious title of Bus Driver of the Year, a trophy that he treasured with pride. Beyond his full-time work, Domingo was a savvy entrepreneur, always seeking new opportunities to supplement his income. His keen eye for hidden treasures led him to auctions and flea markets, where he uncovered gems he would often resell.
Domingo's mechanical prowess and love for restoring old cars set him apart. With remarkable attention to detail and a patient spirit, he meticulously brought these vintage vehicles back to life, earning himself a stellar reputation. His dedication and hard work were truly admirable and created additional income streams for him, showcasing his exceptional work ethic.
Mingo was known for his trademark mustache, stylish cowboy hat, and boots. His distinctive style, reminiscent of the renowned actor Pedro Infante, drew admiration from those around him, adding a unique charm to his persona.
Mingo adored his children and grandchildren; however, his love and faith in God were at the core of his being. Mingo led by example, instilling Christian values in his children and sharing his musical talents by playing the guitar and singing at church. A devout prayer warrior, Mingo testified about God's goodness and grace, inspiring all who crossed his path and following Jesus's command as a disciple. Mingo's favorite radio station was the Christian Channel. He found the music and preaching refreshing and motivational to his calling. Mingo encouraged others to do the same.
