WESLACO, TX - Don Wiedenfeld, age 81, died on October 20, 2016 at his residence. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Jean (Battist), three sons, Steve (Cheryl), Dave (Pam) and Jeff (Brooke); 2 grandsons, Nick (Rachel) and Tony (Crystal) and four great grandchildren, Ellie, Elijah, Castiel and Darien. He is also survived by his sister, Darlene (Ken) May and brothers, Richard (Kathy) and Bobbie (Diana). Don was born on Valentine's Day, 1935 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Herbert & Evelyn (Elmer) Wiedenfeld. He graduated from High School in Lake Mills, Wisconsin in 1953. He served in the Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean conflict. After leaving the service, he and Jean returned to Wisconsin. Don Was regional sales manager for Gehl Company. His region was always at the top of the heap and Don was awarded the "Total Performer Award" for his efforts. Don retired in 1992 and he and Jean embarked on many new adventures. They traveled extensively in the United States with their RV and settled in South Texas (so they wouldn't have to go walking in the Wisconsin snow of the winter). Don studied woodcarving and completed many beautiful projects. He loved cooking - and Jean called him her Master Chef - especially as he did all the cooking - what a guy! He really enjoyed living at John Knox Village and was active in the woodworking shop and at the White Elephant sales held to dispose of donated items from residents.
