When Ela was a young adult, she met Luciano Garcia Sr. They were married for eighteen years and had four children together until his untimely death in 1967. Many will remember Ela from her twenty years with the Weslaco School District, where she worked as a cook until her retirement. Ela loved to cook and cater to her family and guests. She spent a lot of time perfecting her homemade meals. Ela was a great homemaker and also loved working in her yard. She also enjoyed a little bit of gambling, playing loteria and bingo. Ela loved going to Mexico, and she was a social butterfly and loved being around her family and friends. She never met a stranger and lit up a room with her genuine love and compassion. Ela lived with her son, Luciano, for the past ten years in San Antonio and always looked forward to their Friday night cookouts. Above all, Ela loved her Lord and Savior. Ela made sure she attended church services, even as she grew older. Ela is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Garcia and Encarnacion Cantu, son, Abram Garcia, first husband and father of her children, Luciano Garcia Sr., second husband, Salvador Jimenez, sisters, Olivia Peña, Lile Treviño, and brother, Ismael Garcia.
