WESLACO - Ela G. Jimenez, 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 at Knapp Medical Center. She was born on August 11, 1929, to Francisco Garcia and Encarnacion Cantu in Weslaco, Texas. She grew up in Weslaco with two sisters and a brother. Ela, along with her siblings, began working at a young age to help support the family. When Ela was a young adult, she met Luciano Garcia Sr. They were married for eighteen years and had four children together until his untimely death in 1967. Ela later married Salvador Jimenez, and they enjoyed seventeen years together. Many will remember Ela from her twenty years with the Weslaco School District, where she worked as a cook until her retirement. Ela loved to cook and cater to her family and guests. She spent a lot of time perfecting her homemade meals. Ela was a great homemaker and also loved working in her yard. She also enjoyed a little bit of gambling, playing loteria and bingo. Ela loved going to Mexico, and she was a social butterfly and loved being around her family and friends. She never met a stranger and lit up a room with her genuine love and compassion. Ela lived with her son, Luciano, for the past ten years in San Antonio and always looked forward to their Friday night cookouts. Above all, Ela loved her Lord and Savior. Ela made sure she attended church services, even as she grew older. Ela is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Garcia and Encarnacion Cantu, son, Abram Garcia, first husband and father of her children, Luciano Garcia Sr., second husband, Salvador Jimenez, sisters, Olivia Peña, Lile Treviño, and brother, Ismael Garcia. She is survived by her children, Luciano Garcia Jr. (Angie) of San Antonio, Esmeralda Sepulveda (Ruben) of Weslaco, America Peña Silva (Dan) of Weslaco, grandchildren, Eric Garcia (Ashley), Monica Delgado (Daniel), Anthony Sepulveda (LeAnn), Jessica Sepulveda, great-grandchildren, Ethan, Scarlett, and Juliet Garcia, Kailee and Braelyn Delgado, Ian Solis, Kai, Teyah, Arianna Sepulveda, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15th, from 3-9pm, prayer service at 7 pm and a rosary at 7:30 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 16th, 10 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel, burial to follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna, TX.
