Weslaco-Elida Moreno, 84, passed away on Thursday, December 14th, 2017. She was born to Jesus Moreno and Francisca Cantu, on March 5, 1933, in Mexico, where she went to school and spent most of her life. She met her husband, Rafael, at a dance when she was a young teenager and they were married soon after. When Elida was young, she worked in agriculture. After she and Rafael had children, she stayed home to care for her nine children. Elida loved to work in her garden, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed caring for her animals. She will be most remembered for her love of arts and crafts. She was very talented and even during her last days in the hospital, she was making doves out of napkins. Elida is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Rafael Maldonado, her son, Rafael Maldonado Jr., her grandson, Omar Rangel and granddaughter, Cynthia Rodriguez. Elida is survived by her children, Yolanda Marin of Weslaco, Juanita Rodriguez of Progreso, Eleuterio Maldonado of Mexico, Rafael Maldonado of Weslaco, Norma Rangel of Houston, Alejandro Maldonado of Weslaco, Arturo Maldonado of Weslaco, Rosa Maldonado of Weslaco and Oscar Maldonado of Houston, Martha Gutierrez sister of Weslaco, Rogelio Moreno brother of Mexico, 40 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
