Weslaco- Elida "Sister" C Pena, 89, went to be our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 21st, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by her family, who loved and cherished her. Elida was born in Harlingen, TX to Higinio Campos and Paula L Campos on November 30, 1929. She attended Weslaco schools and graduated from Weslaco High-School where she met the love of her life, who she later married, Martiniano Peña. She also attended Pan American college where she studied banking. In her youth, she attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where she became a "Daughter of the Virgin Mary" and later attended St. Pius X Catholic Church where she helped with many church activities. Elida worked as a bookkeeper for Well's of Weslaco, but most will remember her from her 25 years as a teller at First National Bank in Weslaco under the President, Robert McAllen. She also worked with Weslaco ISD for five years in the printing shop. Elida, the patriarch, and the cornerstone of the family live with three principles of great importance which she instilled in her family, God, Family, and Education. Those who knew her best spoke highly of her work ethics, her dedication to her family, and her love of life through her dancing ability when attending festive celebrations. Elida is preceded in death by her parents, Higinio and Paula L. Campos, her loving husband of 35 years, Martiniano Peña, and her sister, Elia Gomez.
