Elizabeth York Barton-Dobenin

Weslaco Texas - It is with sadness and joy that the family of Elizabeth York Barton-Dobenin announces her passing on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the age of 97 years. Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1921, in Liberty NE to Hugh and Agnes Murphy York. She married Dr. Joseph Barton-Dobenin in 1952 celebrating nearly 60 years of marriage. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her large family of many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Elizabeth and Joe retired to John Knox Village, Weslaco TX in 2001, enjoying each other's company, a few special friends, relishing life with no snow or cold and picking grapefruit in abundance. Joe passed away on December 19, 2012. With the deep loss of Joe, Elizabeth focused on her church as well as creating a lasting legacy for her family through an educational trust. Elizabeth was assisted by hospice workers after her lungs and heart grew weak. She was lovingly cared for by "her girls" when her physical strength could not support staying alone. She has been blessed with a caring staff that protected and entertained her. Elizabeth is survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband: Joseph Barton-Dobenin. parents: Hugh and Agnes York. brothers: Robert York (Joy), James York (Dorothy), Father Paul York. sisters: Florence Hyberger (William), Helen Engelbart (Keith), Sister James York, and multiple family members. Service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, 10:00 am at St. Theresa's Catholic in Lincoln, NE. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco, TX.
