Weslaco- Elizabeth C Guerra, 60, passed away on Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at McAllen Medical Center. Elizabeth was born in Houston, Texas to Abraham Cortez and Josefa Juarez Cortez. Elizabeth was the third of eight siblings. She was raised in Houston where she graduated high school and attended church. Elizabeth was raised in a foundation of faith. She was raised to put God first, so it was fitting that she met her soulmate, Juan at Templo Efeso in Houston. They fell in love and were married on February 14th, 1979.
Juan and Elizabeth were blessed with three children, Johnny, Aaron, and Crystal. In the 1990's, Juan decided to move the family to Weslaco for a slower pace and a better quality of life. God blessed Juan with the drive and dedication to providing for Elizabeth to stay at home with the children. Elizabeth was a model homemaker. She always taught the children to put God first in their lives and demonstrated Christian behavior. Elizabeth was a great cook and made sure their home was full of love, laughter, and comfort. She enjoyed coloring and was naturally artistic. She also had the privilege to travel with the whole family on the family bus many occasions on vacation, to places like Florida, Las Vegas even to Canada. She and Crystal spent many days shopping and enjoying each other’s company.
When the grandchildren were born, Elizabeth cared for and spoiled them better than any other grandmother would. Most importantly, she prayed for her husband, children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Josefa Cortez, and her father in law, Fermin Guerra.
She is survived by her loving husband of forty years, Juan Guerra, children, Juan E Guerra (Erica L), Aaron Guerra, and Crystal Guerra, grandchildren, Eli and Loralina Guerra, all of Weslaco, sisters, Janie Cortez, Josefina Amequito (Jorge), Mary Teresa De Leon (Bryan), brothers, Abraham Cortez Jr. (Julia), Gilbert Cortez (Isabel), Joe Cortez (Lisa), and Paul Cortez (Rosario), mother in law, Esther Guerra, brothers in law, Daniel Guerra (Delia), David Guerra(Isela), sisters in law, Maria Elena Guerra, Elizabeth Guerra, Maria Esther Guerra(Nicolas), Sara Ramirez, and Maria Estebané (Esteban), and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16th, 2019 from 3-9pm, with a prayer service at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
