Ellen Wayne Snyder

September 29, 1932 — October 20, 2021

Weslaco-Ellen Wayne (Boyd) Snyder passed away peacefully on October 20, 2021, in Harlingen, Texas at age 89. She was born in Camargo, Tennessee to W T Boyd and Gracie Irene (Spray) Boyd on September 29, 1932. Ellen Wayne was an only child with many older half-siblings. When she was 8 years old, the family moved to Weslaco, Texas to join other close family members already living in the Rio Grande Valley. She graduated from Weslaco High School and married the love of her life, Carl V Snyder, on August 30, 1952, at the First Presbyterian Church in Elsa, Texas. Together they raised 4 daughters moving from Texas to Oklahoma and Louisiana, before returning to South Texas.

Ellen, known as Wayne to family and friends was a loving mother and kind friend to many. She especially loved her daily crossword puzzles, cooking, sewing, and singing in the church choir. She and her family spent some of their happiest times at Katy Lake Rod and Gun Club where they built a wonderful lodge, designed by her daughters.

She is predeceased by her husband Carl and survived by daughters, Cheryl Snyder (Amelia Giles, longtime friend), Betsy (David) McWhorter, Julie (Jackson) Rushing, and Diana Snyder; grandsons, Troy (Kathy) McWhorter, Colin McWhorter, Grayson (Hannah) Rushing, and Samuel Rushing; great-granddaughters Maddy and Lilly McWhorter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley View Memory Care and Gracia Hospice for their extraordinary care of Ellen Wayne during this time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
