Elsie Black

January 18, 1934 — July 8, 2021

Elsie P. Black, 87, of Weslaco, Texas passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born January 18, 1934, in Snyder County, PA, youngest daughter of Roger Bingaman and “Mother” Meiser.

She graduated from high school in Mifflin County, PA.

Elsie was last employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Harrisburg, PA, where she was a Data Processing Systems Manager. Previously, she was an operator then supervisor for Bell Telephone of PA.
Elsie and the love of her life, her late husband, Clyde F. Black, were married for three wonderful decades. After retirement, they traveled extensively by motorhome, settling in Mission, Texas, in 1999. They moved to John Knox Village in 2005. When not traveling, they enjoyed golfing,
where Elsie excelled. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing, mostly old time country, at jams throughout the Valley.

Elsie was an amazing cook, but her true joy was baking. She loved to recount the time her mother visited her, a young wife, and they spent the entire visit passing on the secret of making the perfect pie crust. Elsie was extremely proud of her pies, for good reason!

Elsie had a flare for life and relished sharing her personal stories and laughing at herself. In her later years, Elsie enjoyed watching tennis on television, looking out her window to her little patio where there was a plant with red blooms, and talking with her loved ones on the phone (usually with her cat on her lap). We, who loved her, are truly blessed to have had her in our lives.

Elsie dearly loved the cats she had throughout her life and leaves behind Tinkerbell, who was her constant companion.

Elsie is survived by her stepson Scott F. (Ellen) Black of Murrysville, PA; Lupita Ruiz, her loving caregiver and friend; beloved nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
