Elvira D. Hinojosa, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on December 7, 2024, at Weslaco Nursing & Rehab. Born in Mexico, Elvira dedicated her life to her family and faith, establishing herself as a strong and resilient homemaker who embodied selflessness and hard work.
Elvira married Emilio Rene Hinojosa Sr. in 1967. The couple spent half the year as migrant workers in Iowa, North Texas, and other parts of the country. When they started a family, the children worked alongside them. Elvira was a natural giver; whether it was time, energy, prayers, or nourishment, she loved helping others.
Elvira continued to show love by providing delicious meals. Renowned for her delicious tacos and tamales, she opened her home and heart, making every gathering a celebration filled with warmth and joy. Elvira’s hobbies included family get-togethers, playing chalupa, shopping trips, and watching her favorite novelas—each activity reflecting her enthusiasm for bringing people together.
Elvira supported her family, raising her children with selfless love and guiding them through life's challenges. She took great pride in nurturing their lives and balancing responsibilities while instilling values rooted in faith and compassion. Her unwavering dedication was evident in every facet of her work, from taking meticulous care of her parents to always being present for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on at their events.
Elvira’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was seldom seen without her Bible, a source of strength and solace for her. She was not just a homemaker but a giver, offering her love in unique and meaningful ways.
Elvira is preceded in death by her parents, Napoleon and Maria (Acosta) De La Fuente, her loving husband, Emilio Rene Hinojosa Sr., her sister, Albina Benavides, brother, Francisco De la Fuente, and grandson, Francisco Javier Hinojosa Jr.
She is survived by children, Gloria Gonzalez, Emilio R. Hinojosa Jr. (Angelica), Francisco Javier Hinojosa Sr. (Diana), Nicanor Hinojosa (Selma), siblings, Ofelia Navarro (Manuel+), Oralia Aguirre (Elizandro), Eleazar De la Fuente (Beatriz), and Napoleon De la Fuente Jr., eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
